Spa and hammam in Hurghada

The spa session run by our partner Hurghada Habibi lasts two hours: hammam, sauna, a body scrub, then a massage of about 45 minutes. It starts at €25 per person, with hotel transfer, entry and towels. It's the perfect way to end a day at sea, when your skin has soaked up salt and sun.
How a session goes
- Hotel pick-up.
- Hammam: the humid heat opens the pores and loosens you up.
- Sauna, for fans of dry heat.
- Scrub with the traditional mitt: your skin comes out new, literally.
- Massage of about 45 minutes.
- Tea, rest, then back to your hotel.
The order has a logic. Heat prepares the skin for the scrub, the scrub prepares it for the massage. Drink water between each step and take your time over the final rest: that's usually when you understand why Egyptians take the hammam so seriously.
Hammam, sauna, scrub: what's the difference?
The hammam is a steam bath, hot and humid; the sauna is dry heat, more intense; the scrub is done with a mitt inside the hammam, to clear off what sun and salt have left on your skin, and the oil massage comes last, in a quiet room.
When to go
At the end of the day, after the sea or the desert: the hammam relaxes muscles after a day of boats, snorkelling or quad biking, and the massage slows everything down before dinner.
Sunburnt? Skip the scrub, it wakes up the redness. Tell the front desk if you caught too much sun the day before: a gentle massage without the scrub is possible.
