Things to do in Hurghada on dry land
In town, three stops are worth your time: the Marina for a stroll and a coffee, El Mina Mosque on the seafront, and the perfume and oil shops of Sheraton Street.
El Mina Mosque is the big sand-coloured one by the water, two minarets and a crown of domes. It opened in 2012 and is the largest mosque in the Red Sea Governorate. Visitors are welcome outside prayer times: arms and legs covered, a headscarf for women (abayas are handed out at the entrance if you forget), shoes off at the door. Go late in the afternoon, when the stone turns gold.
Then walk it off on Sheraton Street. The perfume shops there run a little ritual: they dab a few oils on your wrist, help you find the one that suits you, and fill a small bottle on the spot. Lotus Hurghada Perfumes and Oils also sells spices, ground Arabic coffee and papyrus. Haggle with a smile, it's part of the fun, and the bottle weighs next to nothing in your luggage.
Things to do in Hurghada at night
Evenings start at the Marina: the promenade, the yachts, a table outside, and later on a bar with music.
Fancy seafood first? Granada Restaurant & Pub, on Old Sheraton Road, has a terrace right on the water and a Mediterranean menu built around prawns and the catch of the day. The pub side takes over after dinner, which suits a group that wants to eat and stay out in the same place. Book for sunset if you want a table by the sea.
And one we keep for special nights: a private rooftop above the Marina quays, yachts below you, El Mina's minarets on the skyline. You won't find it on an app and you can't just walk in. Access is on request, through us. Birthday, sunset drinks, first night of a hen do? Message us and we'll tell you how it works and which evening suits.
Desert people, note this: the safari ends after dark, far from the city lights. Look up.
Things to do in Hurghada with kids
Paradise Island is the easy family beach day: a shallow lagoon where you can stand a long way out, plus lunch on the boat, from €25 per person.
Two more that work well with children. The Seascope, a semi-submersible boat with glass sides, shows the coral and the fish without anyone getting wet: about 45 minutes of viewing, then 20 minutes of snorkelling for those who want it, from €15 per person. And the Orange Bay boat, where a float is lent on board, so even the kids who swim like a brick can watch the reef from the surface.

A day in El Gouna
El Gouna, about 27 km north of central Hurghada by road, is a private town of lagoons, canals and a yacht marina, and visitors who aren't staying there need an entry authorisation requested the day before.
Think of it as the smart end of the Red Sea: tidy streets, ochre domes, the quays of Abu Tig lined with boats, restaurants that take their plates seriously, and prices a notch above Hurghada. People dress up a little for dinner. Nothing formal.
Getting in is simple once you know the rule. The authorisation is requested the day before, by 2pm or 3pm, with a photo of each person's passport or ID, usually by the restaurant, beach club or activity you're visiting. Or send the photos to us on WhatsApp and we handle the lot. Only names on the list get through the gate, so include everyone, even the friend who decides to come at the last minute. Bring the original ID on the day. Around Eid, Easter, Christmas, New Year and the October film festival, visitor access is tighter: message us early if your dates fall then.
Airport transfers and private drivers
Hurghada airport is about 13 km from the town centre and 10 km from the Marina, so 15 to 20 minutes by car, and we book a driver who waits for you as you come out.
After a long flight, nobody wants to negotiate a taxi fare with a suitcase in hand. Send us your flight number on WhatsApp: the driver tracks the real landing time, and the price is agreed before you travel. The same goes for El Gouna, Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay and Soma Bay, or a private driver for a day out.

When to go to Hurghada
Any month works, with two clear seasons: October to April brings afternoons of 21 to 31°C and a sea that stays at 22°C or warmer, while June to September means 34 to 36°C in the air and 27 to 28°C in the water.
Our favourite months are October and November. The sea still sits around 26 to 27°C, the summer heat has eased off, and quad biking or horse riding in the afternoon feels good again, and the October half-term falls right in the middle. In January you keep the sunshine and pull on a hoodie after dark.

Visa, passports and money for UK travellers
British passport holders need a visa for Hurghada: buy it at the airport on arrival for about US$30, paid in cash, or apply online beforehand on the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg.
GOV.UK adds two passport details: at least six months left on it after the date you arrive, and one blank page. The tourist visa bought on arrival covers up to 30 days, plenty for a week or two on the Red Sea. If you go for the e-visa, use the ".gov.eg" address only and keep a printed copy with your passport.
The local currency is the Egyptian pound. Carry a few small notes every day, for tips on the boat and little extras. Egypt runs two hours ahead of the UK for most of the year.

They're "from" prices per person, taken from the partner's price list. The exact price depends on the date and the option you choose, and we confirm it on WhatsApp before you book.
Can I book a single trip without a package?
Yes. Every trip and transfer is booked on its own, whichever hotel you're staying at.
Do I need a visa for Hurghada from the UK?
Yes. Buy it on arrival at Hurghada airport for about US$30 in cash, or online in advance at visa2egypt.gov.eg. Your passport needs six months' validity after your arrival date and one blank page.
Will we definitely see dolphins?
Sightings are frequent off Hurghada, but these are wild dolphins, so they're never guaranteed. The trip includes reef snorkelling either way.
