The pyramids of Giza and Cairo are about 480 km from Hurghada by road, which means 5 to 7 hours each way depending on traffic. The day trip leaves very early, before dawn, and gets back late in the evening. Can you visit the pyramids from Hurghada?
Yes, in one long day: you leave in the middle of the night, reach Giza in the morning, and are back at your hotel late that evening.
It's a day for people who really want to stand in front of the pyramids during their holiday. They're the ones who never regret the alarm clock.
Hurghada to Cairo: distance and drive
About 480 km by the motorway that runs up the coast and then cuts inland to Cairo, so 5 to 7 hours each way, the longest day trip you can do from Hurghada.
Two things make the day go well: sleeping on the way there, and reaching the pyramids in the morning, before the midday heat. The rest comes down to the pace of the visit.
The typical programme
The Giza plateau first, with the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, then the Sphinx, and depending on the option and the time, a museum or a stroll through historic Cairo; the exact programme is confirmed with the partner.
At the foot of Khufu, the scale finally sinks in: more than two million blocks, according to Egyptologists' estimates. Step back for the photo with all three pyramids in a row. The guides know that viewpoint by heart.
By coach or private car

Pyramids or Luxor?
For a single culture day on a beach holiday, Luxor is easier, with half the driving and spectacular temples, while the pyramids win if Giza has been your dream since childhood.
Both have their fans. Plenty of people end up doing the other one on their next trip.

Best time to go
October to April, to see Giza without the full blast of summer heat; in winter, bring a warm layer for the night departure, as the desert is chilly before dawn.
