In short. Hurghada makes a great base for a stag or hen do in the sun: direct flights from a long list of UK airports, a sea around 27°C in October, and activities built for a crowd (quad biking in the desert, a speedboat to the White Island sandbar, parasailing over the bay, nights out at the Marina). Planning comes down to five steps: fix the date, check passports, collect the money, book, then prepare the surprises. The one thing to get right is local custom on alcohol and what you wear in town.
Organising the stag or hen do is the best man's or maid of honour's first real test. You need a date that suits everyone, an idea the bride or groom will love, and a budget nobody sulks about. This guide does the legwork, step by step.
Why Egypt for a stag or hen do?
Because it's a proper change from Prague or Magaluf, and no harder to organise.
Hurghada has direct flights from a long list of UK airports. easyJet flies year-round from Gatwick, Luton, Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow and Belfast International, and TUI from Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands and Newcastle, according to The Getaway Lounge (September 2026). Jet2 adds routes from February 2027. Most flights take about five hours 45 minutes, around six from Scotland, Belfast and Newcastle. No connection to miss at 2am with a groom dressed as a banana.
In October it's still properly warm: 32°C at the start of the month, 29°C by the end, with the sea at around 27°C, based on Weather Spark averages. That's a week in swimwear while Britain digs out its umbrellas.
And the setting does the rest. The Red Sea on one side, the desert and its mountains on the other. Two worlds in one week means stories, and photos for the wedding speech.
Activities that work for a stag or hen do
Not every activity works in a group. The best ones share a trait: you do them together, and something happens that's worth retelling.
Quad or buggy safari. Desert, dust, a line of quads behind the guide, then a stop at a Bedouin village and dinner under the stars. This is the "adventure" day of the trip (desert safari).
Speedboat and White Island. A fast boat, an island of your choice, snorkelling, and that white sandbar in the middle of the sea. The official group photo gets taken here. The full day is on our Hurghada speedboat page.
Parasailing. The bride or groom takes off, everyone else films from the boat. We can't think of a better way to give them a moment of (relative) peace before the big day.
Dolphin boat trip. You head out looking for wild dolphins. Sightings are frequent, never guaranteed, and that's exactly what makes the moment special when it happens (dolphin trip).
Sunset horse ride. Between desert and shoreline. On paper it's the quietest day of the week. It's often the one people remember most.
Spa and hammam. Obvious for a hen do, underrated for a stag do. After the flight and a day on a boat, even the hardest sceptics come round.

Planning it, step by step
1. Fix the date with the core group. Ask around early, then lock it. For a private speedboat, the partner's price covers four people per boat, so a group of eight simply takes two.
2. Check everyone's passport. It's the step people forget, and the one that can sink the whole trip. GOV.UK asks British travellers for a passport with at least six months left after the date you arrive in Egypt, plus one blank page. Ask everyone to check their expiry date the day you pitch the idea.
3. Collect the money. Set up a kitty, and decide straight away whether the group covers the bride's or groom's share. Better to have that chat in September than at the check-in desk.
4. Book. Send us the dates, the headcount and the trips you fancy on WhatsApp. We confirm each price with the partner, then the Hurghada Habibi team picks you up from your hotel on the day. Nothing is paid on this website.
5. Prepare the surprises. Matching outfits for the boat, a banner, a cake, a list of dares: put it in your message and we'll check with the partner what's doable on board.
The budget, line by line
No made-up prices here. Just the partner's flyer and a calculator.
Add up the sample week above and the trips come to €185 per person, from price: Orange Bay, spa, dolphins, Paradise Island, horse ride and safari at €25 each, plus €35 each for a speedboat shared by four. On top of that, budget for:
- flights and accommodation, booked on your side;
- the visa, about US$30 per person, paid in cash on arrival (or the official e-visa at visa2egypt.gov.eg);
- meals, apart from lunch on board at Orange Bay and the safari dinner;
- beach club drinks and nights out;
- the stag or hen props (T-shirts, fancy dress, cake);
- tips and souvenirs.
Tip from a well-organised best man: agree a "nights out" kitty on day one. It saves redoing the maths every morning.
Good habits in Egypt, even on a stag do
A stag or hen do is meant to spill over a little. In Hurghada, though, a few customs are simply respected.
Drinks belong in licensed bars, restaurants, beach clubs and hotels, not on the street. The UK government points out that Egyptian law is strict on this (GOV.UK), so keep the glasses for the places made for them.
Drugs: zero, even tiny amounts. Egyptian law is among the strictest there is, according to the same source. The party runs perfectly well on cocktails.
Fancy dress, yes, in the right place. On the boat, at the beach club or at your accommodation, go for it. To cross the town centre or the souk, wear something that covers shoulders and knees.
Photos: ask before photographing locals, and keep the lens on the sea, the desert and your mates rather than official buildings. GOV.UK also notes that Egypt is strict about photos seen as harming the country's image.
Pre-flight checklist
