October is when the summer heat drops just enough for a quad ride at 4pm without roasting, while the sea stays warm enough to spend an hour in it without a shiver. Flying out of a grey British autumn, the contrast is quite something. The good kind.
What's the weather like in Hurghada in October?
Hot and dry. Going by Weather Spark's historical averages, highs fall from 32°C at the start of the month to 29°C at the end, and lows from 24°C to 20°C. About 1 mm of rain falls over the whole month, and the sky stays clear most of the time. The wind blows mainly from the north, at around 19 to 22 km/h on average.

Early or late October: what changes
Two things shift as the month goes on: the light and the evenings.
The sun sets around 6.30pm in early October, then around 5pm at the end, according to Weather Spark (local time). Part of that jump comes from Egypt's switch to winter time at midnight on 29 October 2026 (Cairo Scene). In practice, late in the month, a desert sunset gets booked earlier in the afternoon.
The nights cool down too. At 24°C, you eat dinner in a T-shirt. At 20°C, with the north wind along the Marina quays, a long-sleeved shirt feels just right.
And late October brings an event: the El Gouna Film Festival, whose 9th edition runs from 15 to 23 October 2026 (Cairo Scene).
October half-term in Hurghada
Travelling at half-term? In most of England, it runs from Monday 26 to Friday 30 October 2026, as in Rochdale (Rochdale Borough Council). Scottish schools break earlier: in Edinburgh, from 12 to 19 October 2026 (City of Edinburgh Council). Dates vary by council and by school, so check yours before booking.
Either way, you land in the sweet spot of the year: a sea still around 27°C and afternoons that let the kids do the boat and the desert in the same week. For younger children, the Seascope, a semi-submersible boat with glass sides, shows the reef fish without anyone getting wet (from €15 per person, Hurghada Habibi partner price as of 23 September 2026, confirmed on WhatsApp).
At sea: islands, dolphins and snorkelling
With water around 27°C, October is a month for spending your days on a boat.
Orange Bay, on Giftun Island off Hurghada, is one of the best-known trips: a fine-sand beach, very clear water and snorkelling over the reef. Paradise Island is in the same vein, at a more beachy pace. And White Island, the white sandbar that rises out of the sea, is usually reached by speedboat.
The dolphin trip heads out looking for the wild dolphins that live around Hurghada. Sightings are frequent, never guaranteed: these are free animals, and no honest trip can promise them.
Two tips for October. The north wind can make the crossing a bit livelier: if you get seasick, sit at the back of the boat and look at the horizon. And the sun still hits hard on the water, even when the air feels mild. A UV rash vest for snorkelling, and mineral sun cream: the US agency NOAA notes that some chemical filters, such as oxybenzone, can harm corals.
In the desert: quads, a Bedouin village, horses
The desert starts right behind the town, with mountains on the horizon. In July, riding there in mid-afternoon is an endurance test. In October it turns pleasant, especially late in the day.
The quad or buggy safari follows well-known tracks, in convoy behind the guide, before a stop at a Bedouin village and dinner. Closed shoes, a scarf against the dust, sunglasses: that's the basic kit.
The sunset horse ride, between desert and shoreline, also makes the most of October's gentler heat. It's the calmest outing of the week, and often the one with the best pictures.

El Gouna: the lagoons and the film festival
About 20 km north of Hurghada (Wikipedia), El Gouna is a small town built on lagoons, quieter and more polished. You stroll along the canals, have lunch at Abu Tig Marina, and watch the kitesurfers.

Evenings: the Marina and the beach clubs
October evenings are soft, especially early in the month. Dinner outdoors at the Marina, a drink on the quays, then a beach club or Little Buddha, one of the best-known clubs in town. - A waterproof phone pouch, a power bank
- About US$30 in cash for the visa on arrival, or the e-visa from visa2egypt.gov.eg, printed
- Your passport, with at least six months left after the date you arrive and one blank page (GOV.UK)
And a plug adapter. Egypt uses type C and F sockets at 220V (Wise), so UK three-pin plugs won't fit. Most phones and laptops are dual voltage: the adapter is all they need.
The time difference in October
For most of October 2026, Hurghada is 2 hours ahead of the UK. With one twist at the end of the month.
UK clocks go back at 2am on Sunday 25 October 2026 (Royal Observatory Greenwich). Egypt waits until the end of Thursday 29 October, according to Cairo Scene. In between, the gap grows to 3 hours. From 30 October, it's back to 2.
